Sconce Wall, by Great Basin Software LLC · updated September 27, 2026
Your home stays in your home
Sconce Wall runs inside your home. Your devices, rooms, rules, camera pictures and settings are kept on the panel, and it controls your lights and devices over your own home network. Great Basin Software does not receive your devices, your camera video, or what happens in your home.
What the panel sends out, and to whom
- Services you sign in to (such as Google Nest, SmartThings, Orbit B-hyve or Tesla). The panel talks to that company's servers with the account you signed in with, to show and control your devices there. The sign-in is kept on the panel. That company's own privacy policy covers what it does.
- Location, for the time zone and weather. Setup asks for your ZIP code. A US ZIP code is looked up on the panel itself, in a list of ZIP codes from GeoNames (Creative Commons Attribution 4.0), and is not sent anywhere. Any other postal code is sent to Open-Meteo to find its location. The panel does not work out your location from your internet address unless a program asks it to through the panel's open API; then it asks our update service, which looks up the internet address the request comes from in DB-IP's city database, which it keeps itself, and answers with a nearby city. That address is not sent anywhere else and not saved. IP Geolocation by DB-IP. Time zones are worked out from a location with timezone-boundary-builder's map of time zones (Open Database License).
- Weather. The location, as a latitude and longitude, goes to Open-Meteo for the forecast and your time zone.
- Updates. The panel asks our update service (updates.sconce.tech) whether there is a newer version, sending its model and version. Our service sees the internet address the request comes from.
- The panel's secure address. To give the panel's settings page a real padlock, the panel asks our update service for a certificate for its own name (a random name under sconce.me), and tells it the panel's address on your home network, such as 192.168.1.20. That address is published in public DNS under the panel's name. The name is random and identifies no one, and like every certificate it appears in public certificate logs.
- Support requests. Only when you send one: what you write, and the details the panel shows you before sending, come to us as a support ticket.
- Analytics and error reporting. On unless you turn it off at setup, and you can turn it off at any time in the panel's console. When on, the panel sends us crash reports (the error and where in the software it happened, the software version, the panel model, how long it had been running and a random ID). Once a day it also sends a report on how it finds devices and how it is running: how much it asks on your home network each hour, what it found out and decided about each device on your network (including its MAC address, its home network address and the names it announces), and the day's panel logs, with passwords, keys, internet and home network addresses and email addresses removed. The logs can include the names of your devices and rooms and what the panel did with them, such as a rule turning on a light. Nothing from Google Nest is sent. Sconce is in testing with a small group of homes; before it is sold, what these reports keep will be decided again and this page updated.
Google Nest
Sconce's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Google user data accessed
With your permission (the Smart Device Management scope sdm.service), Sconce accesses: the Nest cameras and doorbells you choose on Google's page, with their names, rooms and online status; their live camera video; and their events — doorbell press, person and motion.
How Sconce uses Google user data
Only to show your Nest cameras and doorbell on your own panel: to list them, play their live view, show the camera when the doorbell rings, and run the rules you set on the panel (such as "Front Door rings: show it"). Google user data is not used for advertising, not sold, not used to train AI or machine-learning models, and not read by people at Great Basin Software.
Sharing, transfer and disclosure of Google user data
Google user data is not shared with, transferred to, or disclosed to any third party. It stays on your panel. Camera video goes directly between Google and your panel. Two things pass through our own update service (updates.sconce.tech), which is operated by Great Basin Software and stores nothing: each hour your panel asks it to renew the panel's access to Google, and Google sends Nest's events to it, which it passes to your panel only.
How Google user data is protected
Every connection is encrypted with TLS, and live video uses encrypted WebRTC. Your Nest sign-in is stored on your panel in a file only the panel's software can read. Sconce's Google credential is kept on our update service, never in a panel. The service accepts only requests signed by a panel and event messages signed by Google, and it gives each home only its own events.
Retention and deletion of Google user data
Your panel keeps your Nest sign-in until you sign out; signing out deletes it. Device details and events are held in the panel's memory, and camera video is shown live and never recorded. Our update service holds each event in memory for at most ten minutes and keeps no other Google user data. To remove Sconce's access at any time, sign out of Nest in the panel's console, or remove Sconce at Google's partner connections page. To ask us about your data, write to contact@sconce.tech.
This website
- Early access. If you leave your email, we keep it with the time, the internet address and the browser it came from, and send a confirmation through our email provider (Resend). We use it only to tell you about Sconce.
- No ads and no tracking cookies. Fonts load from Google Fonts, so Google sees your browser's request for them.
Removing your information
What the panel keeps is on the panel, not with us. Signing out of Nest in the panel's console deletes its Nest sign-in. To have us delete your early access email or a support request, write to contact@sconce.tech.
